2700 Series Sanyo 'AA' NiMH Transmitter Packs

NEW!! This is it.. the top of the heap, the 'mother of all Tx packs'. The Sanyo HR3U-2700 Series NiMH Ultra Hi-Capacity Transmitter packs are the highest capacity Tx packs and reloads available for your radio, period.

Note: Futaba 14Mz owners.. sorry.. your stuck with lower capacity and shorter runtime Lithium replacements and spares for your super system.. at about twice the cost.

Using the new Sanyo 2700's Tx we're getting runtimes of up to 9 hours at a 300ma load, making this the right choice for flyers demanding exceptional Transmitter on-time at events and on the road all while maintaining the OEM footprint. These are available to fit Futaba, JR, Hitec & Airtronics computer radios (except the 14mz) including the popular Futaba 9Z, 9C, 8U, 7C & 7CS and JR 10X, 9303 and 8103 systems.

ATTENTION 9Z and 10X Owners: Cassette Reloads for the 9Z and 10x using the 2700 cells are an exceptionally tight fit. We provide packs ordered with tabs for cassette reloads with an installation guide to make the process a bit easier, but expect a bit of a wrestling match and @ a 1/64th inch gap around the case closeure if using these packs in cassettes. Yes, the cassette will still fit in your 10x or 9z radio with the 'gap' in the cassette closeure. If you like, you can send your cassette in and we'll reload it here (it'll still have a bit of a gap when finished) with same or next day turn-around, or you can buy the ready for installation reload package with an included photo instruction guide from us. Just follow the step by step tech-tips below for a general overview (expanded version provided with the pack!) on how to install it yourself.

Lastly... Before ordering, please read the cautions to the right... and pick the right pack for the way you fly.

NOTE: Limited quantities available. No Dealer orders please!

Before you buy…. Things you should know about 2100, 2500 and 2700 Sanyo AA HR-3U Ultra High Capacity Packs.

These cells are fragile… they will not tolerate an overcharge. Where most other cells have a bit of leeway with respect to charger support, these will go belly up very quickly if they get whacked with even a mild overcharge. THERE IS NO WARRANTY FOR CHARGE DAMAGED PACKS!

Common symptom: Rapid Self Discharge after Charge. What happened? In order to get 2700ma of capacity into a cell this size, very thin plate and insulator materials are used. If the cells get an overcharge they begin ‘outgassing’.. this forces holes in the insulators and a crystal ‘dendrite’ or ‘short’ is developed in the cell(s). This ‘soft short’ condition manifests itself as a very rapid self-discharge… a charged pack will drop below flyable voltage within a few days to a few hours. Once this manifests itself, there is no cure.. and this is not a warrantable failure.

We ship each of these packs with an exhaustive ‘care and feeding guide’, yet despite the cautions and warnings, in a world filled with the 'peak' type field chargers used by most flyers, flying field distractions and the long charge times on the bench at home; we've seen more than a few folks have wound up with an overcharge condition and a non-warrantable damaged pack. So… before you click that ‘add to cart button’ ask yourself if you actually require 8 hours of Tx on time per session. If your like me, you’ll find that the AA 1650’s will provide more than adequate flying time (5 hours average) for the way you fly, last longer in terms of charge - discharge cycles and are a bit more tolerant of the charge habits and charger gear we commonly use at the field and at home.

Tech Tip... Futaba 9z & JR 10x Cassette Battery Reload Guide.

DSCN5320.jpg

First, remove the 4 screws that hold the cassette together. Here you can see (click photo’s to enlarge) the cassette with it’s screws ‘lose’ but not removed. Take ‘em ALL the way out and put ‘em someplace where you are not likely to bump ‘em off the table and into the carpet.. losing one of these is a pain in the butt!

DSCN5321.jpg

Now you get to take the cassette top off.. note the two alignment tab slots on the cassette bottom and the mating tabs on the top.. spread the cassette slightly there, then lift the top away. When it’s open, everything looks like this.

DSCN5324.jpg

Next, lift the pack out of the cassette bottom. The little circuit board just sits in a slot at the end of the cassette bottom, and it comes right out with the pack. On Futaba cassettes there’s often a double stick tape strip in the bottom of the case, use care prying it out; don’t crack the case and fer pete’s sake don’t short the pack with your screwdriver or your workshop will look like a ‘Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea’ re-run!

DSCN5325.jpg

Hard parts over.. now the soldering iron comes into play. Unsolder the wires from the little circuit board from the tabs on the old pack. Note that Red wire is always positive, even in JR cassettes. This, folks; is important so pay attention… you don’t wanna make smoke. Be sure you carefully unsolder the wires where they connect to the BATTERY, not the little circuit board.

DSCN5326.jpg

Now that the old pack is out, you can take a breath, admire your work and prepare to insert the new pack. Depending on who’s pack you are going to install, you’ll need to get it ready by identifying which terminal on the new pack is the positive one and marking it. Next; carefully remove the shrink jacket from the new pack and then finish prepping it by putting a bit of solder on the new packs solder tabs (if some is not already on them).

DSCN5327.jpg

Now, grab up your little circuit board and re-solder its wires to the tabs on your new pack.. and again; pay VERY close attention to the polarity, or your new name will be 'Sparky'. Often, replacement battery packs have their positive tab in a different ‘clock’ position than the old one. If in doubt, check the pack with a meter, but fer cripes sake DO NOT MESS THIS UP.. get the red wire on the positive tab!!

DSCN5329.jpg

Whew.. all down hill from here! Your sure you’ve soldered it up correctly (still not too late to check!!) and it’s time to drop the new pack into the cassette. Line up the circuit board in it’s slot and everything just tracks right into place.

DSCN5330.jpg

Well there it is, done deal. All that’s left now is getting the cassette back together. Line up the tabs on the top half with the slots on the bottom first, then close the cassette like you close a book. Watch the white nylon plug end of the circuit board, make sure it lines up nicely with the slot in the cassette top. When everything is right it just ‘clicks’ together. Don’t force it, it’ll all go together fine if yah hold yer tounge just right! *click* Wallah!!  Now you can run the screws home; set up your charger and get the formation charge going. Remember.. 10% of rated capacity for 14-16 hours. Don’t EVER fast charge a new pack; always slow charge first! Congratulations on your successful surgery!

NiCad & NiMH Frequently Asked Questions

“If the plane matters.. the battery matters.”

We strongly believe in quality.. even where you can’t see it.  It's our policy to clearly label each pack and package with the details on whose cells are in your packs.. each and every pack comes with a pedigree. We'll never rejacket cells to disguise the origin or date codes. We use only the finest cells, welding equipment and production materials to assemble our packs and each and every one is equipped with our own mil-spec oversize nickel alloy intercell straps, triple welded on both sides for the most dependable and strong connection possible. Each cell is bedded with RTV to provide flexible protection from chaffing and shorts in a high vibration environment. Since we never use ‘hot glue’ to assemble our packs, you never need worry about the integrity of the battery pack in a high temperature environment. The over-gauge cabling is soldered to mil-spec standards and then strain relieved so there is no risk of tab separation when the connector gets a hard yank. Even the packs shrink finish is different.. we use the finest mil-spec 3M heat shrink finishing material for an incredibly strong, vibration resistant pack and then we terminal your pack with only the very best gold plated connector sets available.  Each and every step is completed here, in house, by expert modelers highly skilled in the craft of utterly dependable battery construction.
