FlightMaster HC A123 Rx, Ignition Packs & Accessories

The FlightMaster HC Series A123's on this Page are custom configured for 1/4 and 1/3 scale models up to approximately 50 pounds

The 'HC' Series is engineered for High Current handling between the battery packs and your Rx or Power Expander. Gone are the fuselage mounted slide switches and JR/Futaba system connectors commonly used in lighter 1/5 & 1/4 scale projects. We use 16 gauge cabling wherever possible and utilize the Amass MR30 3 pin high current connectors on the pack, on our SwitchMaster and on our custom configured HC Series Combo Charger Cables & Checker Harness. This system can easily handle 30 amps for short periods, 15 amps continuous and permits 4C (10amp) balanced Fast Field Charging. If your looking for rock-solid power stability and dependable, instant disconnect capability this is YOUR system. Battery and SwitchMaster lead lengths are user selectable, every system is custom built to order.Scroll down on this page for FlightMaster HC Series Packs & Support Gear
We've also added a brand new lineup of packs and support gear for even more aggressive flyers, Giant Scale Jet pilots and larger 1/3 & 1/2 scale projects 50lbs and up....If you are outfitting a project the weighs MORE than 50 pounds -OR- you fly like your hair is on fire, you'll find the new green shrink covered 'PowerMaster Series' packs and support gear to be just what you need for handling exceptional current loading, high rate fast charging and ease of access, all specifically designed for folks using Power Expanders, Power Safe type Digital switches and multiple Receivers. FlightMaster HC Series Packs are configured for the higher current loads expected with aggressively flown giant scale aerobatic aircraft as well as 1/4 & 1/3 scale projects from 25 pounds up to approximately 50 pounds. FlightMaster HC packs are all cabled with 16g wire and utilize MR30 high-current connectors to provide exceptional current handling. To provide unrestricted power to your Rx, Servos, Ignition and Radio gear we've developed a 'drop-in' high-current capable replacement for the system-standard 20g 'Combo Solution Switch' .. our new 'SwitchMaster' can handle up to 30 amp momentary loads, easily permits 10 amp (4C) balanced Fast Field Charging and provides a certain and absolute means of instantly - with no fussing about- disconnecting your pack from all devices for transport or storage of the model.
Finally, each pack gets our superb 3M Mil Spec rubberised shrink finish. ALL our packs are built to fly, survive and excel in the most punishing environments. The packs I build for your RC project are assembled to the same exacting standards we use for DARPA, Aeroviornment, JPL, the Naval Research Labs and RPV / Robotics applications worldwide. FlightMaster HC 2600 Series A123 6.6v w/MR30 COMBO FEED The 'Combo Feed' Single Lead 26650 Sized 6.6v 2 cell Rx/Ignition Pack configured for High Current loading Giant Scale applications 25 - 50 pounds
The A123 2600 Series cells have been the 'Go-To' solution for folks migrating into Giant Scale for two decades now, their longevity and durability are legend. The 'Single Lead' in-plane balance charging configurations based on 20g HD cabling & R/C standard connectors and switches remain an outstanding pick for 1/5 and light 1/4 scale projects up to @ 25 pounds.
However.. we've noticed quite a few of you gents have 'moved up' to even larger aircraft; 30-40 pounds and larger.. ...read on; this new line of HC Combo Solution packs are for YOU!
Brownout Failures: Along with the jump up in R/C Aircraft size, weight & speed comes a much larger demand for current.. increasingly, folks were hitting the 'impedance wall' where current demand from the radio gear under flight loads outstripped the load-handling capabilities of standard R/C cabling & FJ/JR Univ type connectors and system HD chargeport slide switches. When the current demands from your control system exceed the current handling capabilities of your cabling, switches and connectors your system voltage collapses while those loads are being applied. A 20 amp rated Power Expander is a waste of money and space if the power legs of your battery system feeding it are being strangled by 3 amp rated connectors.
Run-Flat Failures: In an attempt to address the current demand issue we increasingly relied on Power Expanders, 'Smart' Radio gear and Hybrid Rx/Power Handler systems like JR/Propo's DMSS, Futaba's DLPH & Spektrum's 'PowerSafe' type radio gear, just to name a few. These are configured for 'direct' pack to system connection and use 'Digital' or 'Virtual' switches to eliminate 'lossy' high impedance issues with mechanical in-line switches. Sadly, while the digital switches solved some of the impedance issues they added a unique problem.. 'constant-current' demands on the packs, even when the digital switches have the Rx 'switched' off. And run-flats almost always wreck the batteries.
'Fast-Field Charging' that's NOT 'Fast': It's difficult enough once you're at the field to wrestle together a 1/3 scale biplane, when you're done you still need check and top-off your packs. All too often I notice that getting at the packs to check or balance charge is difficult.. worse, if you need to fast charge them you just can't.. 20g FJ/JR Univ plugs in HD switch chargeports are limited to 3 amps (@1C) max. That's about an hour on the charger for two 1/2 charged packs, charging 'em one at a time due to fussy chargers & resulting common ground faults. More if you have an ignition pack that needs to be topped up...
The GOOD NEWS: We fixed it. A pair of our FlightMaster HC packs, SwitchMaster and HC Combo Charger Cables are configured with 16 awg cabling & MR30 High Current 3 pin 'bullet' type connectors & can handle more current than your Power Expander. You'll also be able to actually FAST charge - in the plane! - with ONE cable per pack - at up to 10 amps (4C). Next; no more Run-Flats. Our drop-in HD Chargeport Switch replacement, the 'SwitchMaster', permits instant, TOTAL disconnect of ALL connections of the pack to all loads on the aircraft. So, no more wonky 'common ground' generated charger faults AND no more digging the packs out of the plane to disconnect & store them.. just unplug the SwitchMaster and put the plane away. This 'HC' pack configuration (as shown, top left) is set up with 16 'Combo' configured MR30 three wire combined balance and power feed. You'll need our SwitchMaster & HC Combo Charger Cable (below) to complete a 'Power Leg'.
