Today’s Big Birds
demand big power support. Everything in the world of Giant Scale has changed, from servo current loads to flying styles and
aircraft types. Not so long ago our choices were limited by the equipment available to do the job.. now the choices and the
confusion over what's the right path to take regarding system integrity makes pack selection a mine field of opinion. Here
we've taken steps to clear away some of the confusion and mis-information; we were the first to publish impedance
ratings along with the capacity info on all our R/C packs. Below, you'll find no less than 13 low-impedance packs built
specifically for extreme flying with big birds. Using any of the packs on this page assures you'll not have to worry
about having the battery voltage sag when you fly your pattern 'all out'.

Here's where we excel.. we build
the very finest, most robust battery packs you can get anywhere tailored for Giant Scale and Aggressive 3-D applications.
If your using the latest high-drain high-torque digital servos, powerboxes, ignition systems and kero start ECU'sthese
are the packs you are looking for.
All packs on this page are
built from the finest NiMH and Nicad cells available. All carry an internal impedance rating below 10 mOhms, and
each and every one can be fast charged at the field and are designed to perform with unsurpassed dependability
in the most demanding high temp, high vibration, high current R/C environments.
Exceptional Quality, No
Compromises.

Using the Impedance Rating
to pick the right pack for the way you Fly.
Most folks
react to the 'capacity' rating alone as being the biggest part of their decision in selecting a pack for their big aggressive
birds. This can lead to big trouble on board the aircraft. Just as cells are evaluated for capacity, in high load applications
you need to take into consideration what the cells voltage performance will be when loads are applied. All battery technologies
react to servo loads with a voltage drop while the load is applied. It's really very
simple.. the higher the cells impedance rating, the greater the voltage drop will be while servo loads are applied. Rule
of Thumb for cell selection: Impedance Ratings are like a Golf Score. The lower, the better. Aircraft in agressive aerobatic
enviornments employing digital high torque servos should carry a cell impedance score of 10 mOhms or less.
As an example, one of the most popular lightweight packs used in IMAC aircraft is the Sanyo HR 2700AUX.. plenty of capacity,
but the impedance rate on the cell is 20 mOhms. Pretty high.. but if it's used in parallel with another 2700 pack the
impedance rate is cut in half to 10 mOhms (and the available capacity is doubled). This is why you usually see this
pack employed in parallel in IMAC birds and used without issues as a single pack in a giant Cub.

Elite HR-1500 High Rate Rx / Ignition Pack
Cell Size: 2/3 A
Type: High Rate NiMH
Dimensions: .67 x 1.1
Cell Weight: 22.5g
Impedance: 7.5 mOhms
|
The new Elite HR-1500 is
another step ahead in NiMH technology, replacing the GP1100 and Intellect 1400 at the same size and weight. With it's high
capacity and low impedance current handling capability it's an excellent pack for sport flyers and 25-27% IMAC/Giant
Scalers alike as a building block to a safer, better choice than high impedance A and AA Nicads, particularly for
folks needing extended capacity and very light weight in a parallel setup. (3000ma when run in pairs!) Yes, this little
powerhouse can handle digital servo loads and when run in parallel offers superb duration and dependability without massive
weight gain. Sport, Sailplane and Heli pilots love it for its higher capacity without a size or significant weight penalty
usually associated with capacity increases. We're also seeing this pack used in Ignition applications providing
extra run time without the voltage drop under load usually associated with higher impedance standard NiMH A's and AA's.
This is a small, light pack with a better 'punch' than ANY AA sized pack; Nicad OR NiMH can deliver!

The Sanyo HR-1950
FAUP Rx & Ignition pack is a spectacular hi-capacity NiMH solution to the size and weight requirements faced
by pilots trying to solve the ignition or digital servo system demands for extra run time while keeping the footprint
small and weight low. These unique and exceptional cells
represent the future of NiMH development, with a smaller footprint than any Sub-C Nicad, yet they have impedance as low
or lower and can handle up to 40 amps!!
The outstanding
performance under load make the FAUP's 'King' of the NiMH Rx and Ignition cells. Heli Pilots, Pattern pilots, lightweight
IMAC giant scalers & 3-D flyers love if for its tremendous capacity and fast charge resilience as an Rx pack. An excellent
choice as an Rx or Ignition pack where all up weight is critical and performance under high load counts!
|
Available as 4.8v (4 cell) flat or square pack, or 6.0v (5 cell) flat or 3x2 square pack. The
FAUP's come to us from Sanyo in paper sleeves. Unlike all other assemblers of this cell, we finish the exposed cells
in HD PVC shrink sleeves to fuel and vibration-proof them. They are then assembled with extra HD Quadruple Welded 1/4"
wide straps & finished in HD Rubberized 3M MilSpec shrink.

A low cost
alternative to the Sanyo 1950FAUP is the Elite 2000AFHR cell. It's a bit smaller and lighter and as a result has
a bit higher impedance rating. This cell assembled into packs using the NoBS heavy duty welding and finishing techniques
makes for a very nice, robust and light power system for 27-33% IMAC 3-D parallel installations. Rated for
service in parallel with multiple digital servo's at up to 150 in-oz torque each, formerly the exclusive domain of the
larger FAUP's or SubC cells!
We're also
seeing quite a few of these go to larger DA Engine owners as 5 cell ignition packs where it's very light weight, low impedance
and small size complement the weight savings and long runtime requirements in the nose of the plane.
